Dr. Tomlin from Day & Evening Pet Hospital shares his experience with CoreVu scan assist and Core Imaging’s consultation team…
A 13-year-old male neutered Boston terrier presented with acute onset vomiting and poor appetite however, he was still holding down some food.
We ran digital radiographs, which came back somewhat ambiguous. They did not confirm an obstruction. With permission from the owner, we elected for an abdominal ultrasound consultation. We've got a webcam where we go through the image-capturing process with a virtual sonographer on the other end to guide us and help us capture the best images. They send it out to the radiologist to be read right after we’re finished scanning. They interpret the images and videos to let us know what’s going on.
The Core Imaging team got back to us with a reading quickly, either later that day or first thing the next morning. We were able to confirm the presence of a foreign body, which in a 13-year-old is not very common. We let the pet owners know and our patient went in for surgery that next day.
From there, the obstruction was removed. There was a linear foreign body partially obstructing the pylorus, and the patient did great and recovered smoothly. We received a diagnosis that enabled us to make a surgical decision sooner than we would have without CoreVu. Instead of tiptoeing around the ambiguous radiology findings that we obtained earlier we obtained an outcome that was great. This is one of the cases I've seen with a very satisfying outcome, especially from a new diagnostic tool.
